The Alien
I created this character for a video game. It’s an alien minion that hatched from an egg, hence the absence of a belly button.
It’s artificially engineered to serve as cannon fodder. Given their typically short lifespan, they’re designed without a mouth and with a large belly that provides enough energy to fulfill their objectives.
This rig is fully optimized for Unity and serves as the main enemy in the game. It features two primary animations: throwing dodgeballs and its entrance onto the battlefield. The rig is entirely joint-based, ensuring compatibility and performance within the game engine.
This is its main animation, showcasing the classic pose of someone throwing a dodgeball, with firmly planted feet and a side profile to maximize strength. The eye, as the character’s most prominent feature, conveys focus and power, briefly shifting its gaze to lock onto the target and closing during the throw. This also helps players clearly identify the exact moment the enemy launches the projectile.
This animation showcases its battlefield entry, teleported from the mothership. I aimed for a starting pose that contrasts with its attacking stance, raising its arms and gazing upward. I wanted a dramatic and almost ‘divine‘ feel, drawing inspiration from the iconic ‘Praise the Sun’ gesture in the Dark Souls series. The animation concludes with a firm and impactful landing.
For its idle animation, I wanted to convey a restless personality, having it tap its foot rapidly as if impatiently waiting in a long line. The pose reflects this unease, with quick glances in different directions, scanning its surroundings in a hurried manner.
